373 days to go

July 30th – 1 year and 08 days from today

10.59am Another short night for me. Not complaining, I feel happy today. And it can only get better.
I just remembered that I forgot to get an Internet connexion for the new house and I’m afraid I won’t have it in time and I really don’t want to stay at the man’s house longer than 1 week. Because I’m not sure I’ll survive that week. But I’m completely sure I won’t survive a week without connection. I don’t know anyone there (only the owner of the house) and I don’t have a mobile phone either.
It’s a beautiful day and in about two hours, it’ll be 20C/68F. Amazing if you consider that we are in winter here. I have to keep the blinds closed or I don’t see the screen.

I really wanted to take my kids to see the Obelisco (The Obelisk is a national historic monument and icon of Buenos Aires. It was built to commemorate the fourth centenary of the first foundation of the city). Last week I said to my mom that I wished to go there and she said: “Ok, but be careful, it’s full of thieves, don’t stand with your camera because they take it from you and run”. After a couple of days she asked me when I was going. I said I had changed my plans. She replied that she didn’t think anything could happen to me. I said: “I don’t even want to see or hear that someone was robbed. I’m not going there anymore”.
So, I borrowed this picture just to show it to you. And it comes with an interesting fact. When you see for example that a city is 450 miles away from Buenos Aires, it’s exactly 450 miles away from the Obelisk, since it’s used as the reference point.

I got back my copy of “Seventeen Ways to Eat a Mango” (Diecisiete Maneras de comer un Mango). I’m sorry I have it only in Spanish. I’ll read it again as soon as I can because that book is full of answers… And answers I need!

I’m posting again this poem for everyone who’s feeling down and is thinking about giving up even before start fighting. I know that sometimes it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you walk just a bit further, you’ll see it. This is no bullshit, there is an explanation why you don’t see the light. And it’s because of the Earth roundness.
Visibility: The greatest distance in a given direction at which it is just possible to see and identify with the unaided eye.
So again, if you walk a bit more, you’ll see it, so please, don’t give up.

Don’t Quit (by Edgar A. Guest)

“When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.”

Have a bright day! Smile!

  1. Hello my friend,
    You can at minimum go to a free Wi-fi spot but I would not do any transactions that include personal information. Why don’t you have a phone! How do you live without a phone? I know you’re looking forward to the new place. I can’t wait to hear all the details. Have a great day.

    • I have a phone but I can’t use it in Germany, I’ll need to get a new one. And I’m not sure there is any place with a free Wi-Fi spot (2 supermarkets, 2 banks, 1 cafe’, 1 biergarten, 1 bakery and maybe there is something else that I missed :)). Big metropolis of 4500 inhabitants… I’ll be fine (I like to think that :)). Right now I’ll mail a friend to see if she can help me contract some internet provider on-line. (I hope it takes less than 3 weeks!!)

  2. “sometimes it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you walk just a bit further, you’ll see it.” You know I love that!! But that’s you, always looking for (and usually finding) the light 🙂 You’ll let us know when you leave so if you can’t get Internet we’ll know it’ll just be a little while? Hope it won’t be long before you get all settled in your new home. ❤
