Monday. Another scary day. Pain woke me up before 5am. I left the window open last night and today I have a sore throat. It was very hot yesterday, about 35ºC/95ºF and in the evening there was a huge storm with really strong winds and a lot of rain. The kind of rain without a pattern that you can’t tell from which window it’ll come in and then you realize that it’s coming in from all the windows. So I had to dry the floor in several rooms.
I took a picture from my living room but I’m not sure you can see it very well. Just imagine the drops falling in all directions.
After 5 minutes of rain, everything was under water.
And the temperature dropped till 14ºC/57ªF. Not good for my throat.
You are probably thinking that after my balanced breakfast on Saturday, I didn’t do much during the weekend and I ended up like a couple of days ago looking like Homer Simpson drunk on the sofa. But I need to tell you that you are wrong. The wine made me clean the sofa and then it was really wet so I turned it around and wanted to take it outside to the sun to dry but it was so heavy that I ended up leaving it in the middle of the entrance hall. (No place to crash).
Not only that, the wine in the morning made me smile the entire time and for some reason I had the energy to catch up on a lot of little things that I was postponing since very long time.
Like ironing!
And I discovered that my kids used the iron board as a pretending surfing board again and they ruined the legs. I’m mad at them.
I have to add that I used the iron twice because on Saturday evening before going out, I ironed my top. (So if I iron once more I’m done with the 3 times a year that I iron).
I also used the sewing machine!
And now I don’t have anything to mend, fix, or sew because I finished!
Also the laundry basket is empty. (Still have to fold and put away but I’ll be doing that later).
On Saturday I found the towel rack bent (again). When I tried to lift it, the screw holding it, broke. I’m tired of telling my kids that the towel rack is not meant to be the place where you hold yourself when you exit the shower. They don’t give a crap and keep doing it.
So yesterday I decided to fix it. I thought: “I remove the broken screw and replace it”.
Meanwhile, I was tidying up some drawers and found a long screw that was perfect for the job. I also found a long lost lipstick so I decided to put it on.
I went to the bathroom with the set of screwdrivers and start swearing because no way in hell I could remove the half screw from there. It didn’t matter how hard I tried to unscrew it, I only hurt my wrist and ruined the head of the crew. Shit.
Never mind. I can use the drill and make a hole in the screw.
NO WAY. I broke one of the drill bits. Then I remembered I have one of machines that carve, engrave, sharpen, grind, sand, etc.. that I don’t know how it’s called in English but here is a picture of it.
I knew there was a very small drill bit for metal so I decided to try it but instead of using that machine I decided to use it on the drill.
After about 15 minutes of only tickling the freaking screw and being totally deaf, I stopped. I could only think in my neighbors trying to take a nap. And if someone came to ask me to stop, they would find me wearing a dress and lipstick and they would think that instead of using a drill, I was trying some other kind of tool/toy.
But you know how stubborn I am… I decided to try other ways so if I couldn’t make a hole in it, I would sand it and make it disappear.
After other 5 minutes and 2 different bits, I could remove the freaking screw!
And this is how I fixed it. I know it’s not the right kind of screw but, who cares!
That’s another reason why I need a man. I can’t be my own man every time… it’s not fun!

I know you might not want to hear it Paola, but this is exactly the reason you don’t need a man. There are so many instances when things like this happen around the house and if I can’t repair them quickly, I just give up because I know my husband will do it. This does not prepare me well for times when I may not have him to rely on. Good for you!

Thank you Marissa! I agree with you about being ready ‘in case of’. But I still miss a man near me… even if it’s just to handle me the tools! 🙂

Hi Twin!
Yes, the wine was good… I should do it more often 🙂
My kids are really out of control. I hope it’s not that way when the school ends, otherwise I’ll be plucking my hair!

If they keep acting like that, you might have lay down the law.

I am! I did it yesterday. I got pissed beyond limits while having dinner and I punched the table and hit a fork that started turning around in the air and made my kids and me laugh for 5 minutes… At least they stopped fighting 😀

I have one of those. I call it a Dremel cuz I wanted a Dremel, but it is a similar tool made by Ryobi.
I empathize with you so completely. My husband has developed some health problems as he ages, and he can still do lots of things but is limited. He was a great handyman , hanging drywall, ceiling fans, plumbing, all electric, put in our hardwood floors. Now I feel like everything is disintegrating. I wish my daughters had married handy men.
Anyway, you did a really good job.

Thank you Virginia!
I think it’s very important to choose a man that can do more than change a light bulb 😀
I had to learn to do a lot of things and I’m glad I don’t have a problem getting my hands dirty :). I can’t imagine paying someone to do something that I can do too!
