Saturday. Another dry day and it’s like the third in a row!! OMG, I’m excited! I’t very late today and I really don’t care. Things will get done eventually.

Yesterday I was reading Ritu’s blog. She wrote a very funny poem about waxing the legs. I’m not sure why I used the word funny in the same sentence I used the word waxing. There is nothing funny about waxing. It hurts like hell. The results may be nice. But if you ever got some part of your body waxed, did you wonder at least once: Why the hell am I doing this??
Let me tell you dear hairless friend. It’s worth it. Specially if you come from some areas of the world where the hair distribution is even. That means that the same amount of hair you have on your head, you also have it EVERYWHERE else.

(just in case you wonder, that’s not me!)

You have no idea how much I enjoyed the image searches for this post.

Going back to waxing. I don’t know how it’s done in other parts of the world and I’m not sure I want to find out, but let me tell you how it’s done (or it was done, since I moved abroad very long ago), in my home country, Argentina. In Buenos Aires to be exact. It could be that in smaller towns that’s totally different.

You start by calling the place and making a reservation. It’s not a beauty salon. It’s a special place where a few ladies do ONLY waxing. Imagine a few cabins with a high bed. You go there, lay down and the woman spreads the wax on you, waits a few seconds and then removes it with a quick move.

You wonder how long does it take to wax the entire leg and bikini area. Not really long, about 20 minutes. Why so quick? Because these places have huge buckets of wax already melted and with the perfect temperature.
Not like this pictures below. That’s like a fairy tale. (Or a horror story…).

They don’t use the waxing strips.

(I love the detail of the rose petals around).

At the end of the session, they heat up the wax again and filter all the hairs (or most of them because it happens sometimes that you see alien hairs in your wax). Yes, you freak out a bit….

When you wax at home, it could take HOURS and I don’t know if it happens to everyone, but the couple of times I did it, I always missed a stripe.

Why some women in the world go through so much pain? I’m not sure how the folk tales are in your countries, but where I come from it’s said that if you shave, the hair will grow stronger next time and the removal will be every time harder.

True? False? No idea. I’m not risking and that’s why I got my own plucking machine. Which acts like the wax (removing the entire hair). Is it painful? It was the first times. Now I guess I’m more pain resistant or the hair is growing weaker (because I’m freaking older!!).

I felt the need to add these graphics below.

The evolution… I guess I’m stuck in time.

I love the names of some of those.

The landing strip in my country is named after a German/Austrian dictator.

Bikini Wax

I really didn’t know many of those styles existed. Maybe one day I feel creative and give some a try. (But don’t get too enthusiastic, I won’t be posting the pictures!).

Now I have a request. If you like, please check Ritu’s poem here, and if you also feel like making one of her wishes come true, please follow her blog. Her 40th birthday will be in a few days and she would really like to have 1000 followers by that day.

We all have (at least) one dream. And if we all work together to make come true each other’s dreams, I’m sure we’ll all be much happier.

  4. Oh, you made me go over and reread Ritu’s blog. That was a really cute poem. I tried waxing at home once and it was a terrible experience and didn’t work. I’ve never been to a salon to wax. Seems expensive and painful though I can see why women might do it. There’s supposed to be a little machine you can buy now for long term hair removal. Think it’s about $300 but would save on salon costs and pain of shaving every day.
