Sunday. Ugh… I could write this entire post about the horrible storm that woke me up many times last night and it’s making my pines swing in all directions, but I won’t. Instead of that, I’ll write about “The Code”.

You may be wondering what “The Code” is… Well, it’s not easy to explain, but I’ll try. A few days ago while searching images, I came across one that made me smile and made me angry at the same time.
Earlier today, I read a comment and decided that I had to write about it before I forgot.

This is the comment:

It’s about that time when I was about to be thrown in a swimming pool and I was wearing a white t-shirt and I was screaming because I didn’t want everyone seeing my boobs through the wet t-shirt so this incredible guy (Rodrigo), gave me his black t-shirt.
At the time, I had a boyfriend, Damián. Damián and Rodrigo were really good friends. Before I started dating Damián, I had a crush on Rodrigo for several years but he was always dating this girl, Laura, so no chance.
Secondary school finished and a couple of years passed. Damián left me and Laura, who never ever wanted to have sex with Rodrigo because she wanted to wait until they got married, left Rodrigo for his best friend, Matías. By then, she changed her mind about waiting until they got married.
I was freaking pissed… BITCH.

At the time, my group of friends and Rodrigo’s friends used to go to the same places, so to my delight, I could see him almost every weekend.

One day, we were in this kind of disco club and Rodrigo was very drunk and he said something to a girl dancing there without realizing that her boyfriend was near. The boyfriend got MAD and he wanted to punch Rodrigo, so when I saw that, I hugged Rodrigo and said to the guy: “I’m sorry, my boyfriend is drunk” “You better take him out of here before I kill him”.
So I walked outside with Rodrigo. He knew I liked him very much. He looked into my eyes and got two inches away from my mouth and then he stopped and said: “You were Damián’s girlfriend”… He shook his head, and left. WTF!

That was probably the only time I regretted being Damián’s girlfriend… Shit. So f#$king unfair. Over two years had passed since Damián left me and he even had another girlfriend… But in Rodrigo’s mind, I was untouchable.

I understood then that some guys follow “The Code”. This unsaid thing that can be compare with HONOR.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Good for Damián’s pride, for sure, but really crappy for me.

This was the image I found last week:

The note says:

“This chick just told me she has a boyfriend the morning after. Sorry to tell you like this, but I’d want to know if I was you. Sorry Bro”.

And if you look closely, it’s taped to the back of the toilet seat, so when the Bro lifts it, he’ll find it.

See what I mean? There are a few good men out there and mostly they all follow “The Code”.

Do women have some kind of code too? I’m not sure anymore. I have a lot to write about it.

  2. Funny, I was just listening to the radio and that was the topic. The callers were saying that , YES, there is a “code” and how some people don’t abide by it. My personal opinion is I do not date friends exes, period. But if I had no knowledge of their past relationship and am already involved then the code goes out the window. Just my opinion. Please write more about this topic.

  3. Okay, this is probably a terribly unfeminist thing to say but this is based on my dating experience many years ago from before I was married…I think there is even more of a feminist code since then so things may have changed but here goes…good men are harder to find then good women. Men are much less attractive for one, not to mention the few that are also smart, funny and sexy. Because of this, I think a lot of women are more likely to sleep with the good men that are around whether they are technically available or not.

  4. Back! Lol, P a quick comment, first I’m a little regretting sending that password, apologies if I embarrassed you, I get carried away and maybe a little over excited after our chats last night.

As ever you’ve written a thoughtful post, yes I think an unwritten code exists as in dating a friends ex, however if I went out for the night, single, with a friends ex and we had a fun night alcohol etc. then if the opportunity arose I’d sleep with her that night, I guess I’m probably not as gentlemanly as your friend, no I am a gentleman just weak when it comes to pussy 😀 as you know! …….. your friend is a real diamond 🙂

  5. Hi twin
The meds are kicking me in the but. What I wanted to tell a story. The day after the France bombing, a reporter was talking to a survivor. He talked about what happened, how people were running from the concert. He said “it’s proper, we let the women go first”. The act of kindness in a war zone touches my heart. It got me to thinking what would American’s do. Stamped, step over or on anybody. It makes me sad to think how we’ve lost the manners of the past.
I’m way past bedtime and I have someone watching me.

  6. “The Bro Code” is real. And that note is awesome and at the same time so wrong. Eh.

  7. Not sure if women follow “the code”. For the man who follows “the code” can be good and bad at the same time. Good – it shows he is a gentleman, but bad – there is a high chance that he won’t chase the girl he likes because of “the code”. 😛
