Tuesday. No mug shot, no inspiration.
My grandma should be operated this evening if things are right.

Valentine’s Day is coming. I just saw an articles about: “Valentine’s Day for Singles”. I didn’t bother reading it. I still didn’t see anything for couples. I felt kind of sick. It’s hard to explain. I know there are a lot of people who choose to be single but I know there a lot who hate being single or who are in a relationship and wish they were not.
Stupid Valentine’s Day. When you are not loved or in love, or when your beloved one isn’t with you, it’s painful. It’s not just another day. It’s the chosen day to celebrate love. It’s probably the day when people who hate being single will frown the most.

I don’t know where I’m going with this. I’m just mad at “the news” and whoever writes them. For rubbing in my face that I’ll be alone on Valentine’s Day and trying to be nice offering me things to do without my beloved one. Ughh.

I guess that being pissed off is better than being sad. Or maybe it’s just one of the stages of grief.

  5. I’ll say a little prayer for your grandmother, Paola. Bone breaks in the elderly are not an easy thing 😦

And as far as Valentine’s Day—only when I was young did I think of it as a “love” holiday. Whether I was married, not, with a man or without, I find it the opposite of romantic. Regardless of the holiday, to me anything that’s forced or expected is not romantic or as meaningful as the everyday “unexpected” shows of affection or gifts πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Donna!
My problem was more like this: “I’m not expecting you to show you love me EVERY DAY. It’s only once a year, you can make the effort!!”. πŸ™‚

    • Pride perhaps, selfishness, who knows? But it’s a miserable life that way. I know when my son was born, I couldn’t help but show him affection and saying “I love you,” even through his teenage “embarrassed” years, was never going to stop. He was going to be comfortable with the words and expressing those feelings if I had any influence over it. Through the years, my doing that has actually influenced my family, including my parents, who were not in the habit of “saying” the words other than in cards or whatever. They always showed it and it was never doubted, but the language itself wasn’t a natural part of daily life. I helped change that, even if they never recognized it. I’m glad! And my son is wonderfully affectionate because I believe it’s in his nature, but as his mother, I was conscious of making sure any “macho” tendencies didn’t ruin that πŸ™‚

  6. When I was single I hated Valentine’s Day because it makes people who are single feel left out. I still hate it for that very reason.

  7. I love Valentine’s, whether I’m single or not. I think of it as a Love holiday, and I celebrate all my loved ones, not just the romantic ones. But every holiday is a trigger for someone – birthdays are hard on those of us who have poor health, Christmas is hard for those who have no family, New Year’s is a challenge for people who are depresssed or suicidal. I just look for the angle that I can celebrate in my own way.

  8. Valentine’s Day… a made-up holiday to get people to spend lots of money on things they should be focusing on throughout the year. It’s probably better to be single on that day, you get to save your money, don’t have to buy an “outfit” that you will wear once, or feel the pressure that there is some mysterious bar you have to make sure you rise too or else… yep, probably better. And besides, you can buy your own chocolate (and get what you really want).
