Friday. It’s late today. A couple of days before I went to my parents, the landlord came here to tell me I needed to hang smoke detectors. I said: “No problem, I’ll borrow a powerful drill from my ex and I do it. This ceilings are way too hard for my machine”.
But before I could do it, I had a not so nice fight with my ex and he decided he wanted his drill back. I knew he wasn’t going to use his drill but he asked for it because the day we were fighting, he saw the smoke detectors on the table, waiting to be hung. And that’s what he always did, he aimed to hurt. “Oh yeah?! are you about to hang the detectors? Try to do it without a drill!”.
And he took his drill (with me thinking: “you can stick it up your ass’).

So I had no choice than to get a powerful drill so I never ever again need to ask him for anything.
I looked in Amazon Germany for hours until I found the perfect drill, with good reviews like “monster machine” and a manual in many languages.
I got the drill this morning. The manual is only in German. Crap. The freaking thing is so heavy that I kind of lose balance when I’m holding it.
I asked my son to do the holes for me but still, the ceiling was impossible to drill. I decided that the bits that came with the machine were too big.
I went to get smaller bits and finally my son could drill the holes and hang the five detectors.

You may think the stupid ceiling couldn’t be that hard or that maybe there are only a few hard spots. And if it’s so, I always freaking pick the hard spots. And it’s not that I’m hardheaded (which I am too, of course), but I want the curtain in front of the window and the lamp above the table. I can’t negotiate other spots, right?
For the detectors, I just pick a random spot in every room. And of course, I hit a hard spot.

Below the stupid detector in the kitchen there are two holes the size you’ll need to hang a hammock. So inside each whole you’ll find a few plugs just to fill the space.
I don’t care, I don’t see it, it doesn’t hurt.

And IT’S FRIDAY, I’M IN LOVE! And I had chosen another song for today but I just decided to change it because I think this one goes better with today’s post.
There is always something. All that glitters is not gold. And you can also find silver spoons among the trash.
But cheer up, it may get better one day, right?

EVERY ROSE HAS ITS THORN
(written by Bobby Dall, Bret Michaels, Bruce Johannesson & Rikki Rocket)

We both lie silently still
In the dead of the night
Although we both lie close together
We feel miles apart inside
Was it something I said or something I did
Did my words not come out right
Though I tried not to hurt you
Though I tried
But I guess that’s why they say

Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

Yeah it does
I listen to your favorite song
Playing on the radio
Hear the DJ say love’s a game of easy come and easy go
But I wonder does he know
Has it ever felt like this
And I know that you’d be here right now
If I could have let you know somehow I guess

Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

Though it’s been a while now
I can still feel so much pain
Like the knife that cuts you the wound heals
But the scar, that scar remains
I know I could have saved our love that night
If I’d known what to say
Instead of making love
We both made our separate ways
Now he found somebody new
And that I never meant that much to you
To hear that tears me up inside
And to see you cuts me like a knife

I guess every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

  2. Seems to me it’s not that he’s necessarily looking to hurt, but show you how it is when he (or his stuff) is not around—that you need him.

And why are you responsible to hang smoke detectors and not your landlord?

    • I’m responsible for everything inside the house apparently πŸ™‚
Donna, my ex aims to hurt. I didn’t write exactly what happened because I know some people would get worried. He came to my house while I was on the phone with someone else. I said: I’m on the phone. He replied: I don’t care and kept talking to me. Since I couldn’t hear the other person, I went to another room. He got mad, took a frying pan that was on the table and smashed it against the floor.
Then he went to the car and not all my kids were safely fastened so I ran to close the door and he shouted: You’ll pay for this.
He’s an asshole and left me shaking for hours. He hates not being in control and the center of attention.
I hate when he does that in front of my kids… He knows better and he chooses to hurt!!
I decided not to post all that because I feel ashamed, how can I let all that crap still happen? I swear Donna, sometimes I’d call the police. I’m sure I don’t deserve this! πŸ™‚

  3. I don’t envy you that task. Hanging things and drilling holes is something I leave to my husband and even he gets very frustrated.

  4. I’m questioning the same thing DotedOn has. I would think it was your landlords responsibility. Any way, I’m glad you got it all taken care of despite your exes childish behavior. Have a great weekend!

    • Thank you, Bradley!
Apparently, I’m responsible for every job inside the house (unless it’s something that breaks like a pipe and that we didn’t cause it).
Have a great weekend too! πŸ™‚

    • Once in a while is nice!
You have no idea how much I wait for my weekends off! πŸ™‚
Being a single parent is exhausting, specially when the kids are too many. They plot and get against me and sometimes it’s awful! πŸ™‚

      • I’m sure they love you lol we all find our mum’s infuriating. I’m well past 40 and my mother still talks to me sometimes like I’m still 12, gave me lol a telling off over the phone recently because of the ‘state’ of my cooker! My brother’s children are the same.

      • My mom does the same and she adds: “you are just like your father” but that’s not insult to me πŸ˜€

      • Your 5 will be the same, they’ll love their mum, they’ll be a little thoughtless, you’ll drive them mad sometimes and πŸ˜€ you and your daughter will have some ‘hum dinging’ arguments in the future, (how do I know cause I read tooo many blogs written by middle aged mum’s and mom’s that’s how and absolutely fascinating stuff!)

My daughter drives me crazy already. She’s freaking bossy and nothing like me πŸ™‚
Poor the man who falls for her!

  6. I’m not a handy man kind of guy. When I drill… well, how can I have this conversation without reverting to some form of innuendo… so I best just stop while I’m ahead. Argh, too late.

  7. I’m terrible with tools, I would tell the landlord to do it! It took me quite a while to replace the old mailbox for a new one on the entrance gate!

    • Fixing stuff take a long time and the results are not always the one we expect! πŸ™‚
I’m glad a lot of people shares a lot of stuff on YouTube so I don’t have to improvise much πŸ™‚
(And it seems that I’m responsible for most things inside the house… and also, I’m quite hardheaded and hate asking for help πŸ˜€ )

  8. Oh, my God, Paola! 😦 He’s definitely got major issues, to say the least. I just hope and pray he’s never actually physically abused you. I’m guessing it’s just directed toward you and not your kids?

    • That’s the thing, Donna. We never know where his rage will land. I worry when my kids are with him and if he knows that, then he makes sure I worry even more. He spent several years making my life miserable. If he knows I want white, he’ll pick back just to piss me off. And then other days he seems to be the guy I met and that’s really creepy.
