Wednesday. I could barely sleep last night and I’m awake since 5.30am. I wished I could have stayed in bed longer but I had to go to the supermarket to get pears because my little one had to take pears to kindergarten today and I couldn’t do yesterday. Extra exercise is never good for me, specially when I’m tired and it’s so early in the morning.
Then I checked the weather forecast and it said it’s going to rain tomorrow. I panicked so I went to get the oil for the chainsaw.
My plan was to cut some wood sometime this week to practice a bit before attacking the trees.

When we moved here two years ago, the garage roof was in very bad condition so the owner of the house decided to make a new one. It looks very nice now, the only problem I had was that the workers decided to leave some of the old wood and metal parts in my backyard. When I asked why they were not taking those things, one of them said: “something, something, later”.
Nobody showed up later and when the owner of the house came again and I told him about the garbage and he said the men should come back and take it. He never said when that was going to happen…

I was really tired of seeing that in my yard so I decided to use the wood to make some project.
The initial project was to make a bench or a swing but when I went to check the wood, it was full of nails. Plan aborted.

Then I got the chainsaw and decided that I could practice cutting that wood and make logs for the fireplace.

The problem then was that I needed something where I could put the wood to cut. I needed a saw horse.
There was no way I was going to buy one so I decided to use the pieces of metal to build one.

You have no idea how difficult it was to cut. Those pieces are made from a very maleable metal and of course, I didn’t have the right tools to do the job.
Most of the times I folded it both ways until the metal was weak and I could tear it off.

Next problem was how to assemble it without screws. My budget was $0 so either I got creative or nothing was going to happen.
That’s when I remembered I had rip-ties.

And voilà!

You can laugh all you want but my invention helped me get the job done.

Using the chainsaw wasn’t so difficult but it was extremely tiring. Everything hurts now. Even blinking is painful. I’m glad I bought another pair of goggles. Some of the sawdust went to my face and I had to spit out a few pieces.

I’ll try to rest this afternoon, I could fall asleep right now.

  4. Paola I think your work horse is fantastic, as the saying goes “Necessity is the mother of invention”, you made a tool and got the job done, so well done 🙂

I watched a Spanish film at the cinema tonight and like you Paola I don’t mind subtitles, the title is ‘Julieta’ a family story spanning 30 years, basically a mother daughter relationship movie, no sex no violence, mind you I enjoy seeing a pretty woman’s tits if only for a minute. It wasn’t spectacular (film)but passed a pleasant 2 hours.

    You did well.

  7. I’m glad you got the job done. BTW, as an after note (if nobody mentioned this earlier) chainsawing a piece of wood with nails in it is not really recommended…
