Sunday. Yesterday my friend came to check my oven. Man, that sounds dirty.
The problem wasn’t the connection so I have to call the place where I bought it because there is something wrong with it.
I was glad that he came to help me but something happened that left me in a state of complete confusion.

I met this friend (Arnoud) a couple of weeks before my 1st son was born (over 15 years ago). We moved to a flat and he used to live a couple of floors above us.
I was cleaning with two friends and he and 2 other guys who also lived in the building, came to introduce themselves.

A few years passed and we found out that he didn’t like women. He thought he liked men.
A couple of years ago, he decided to start horse riding and something that he didn’t expect, happened. He was attracted to a woman.
At the time, I was already living here.

Some months ago my ex told me that Arnoud was dating a lot of women. That was a big surprise for me but I was glad because he’s a good man and he deserves to be happy.

Yesterday, when he finished checking the oven and was about to leave, I thanked him so he approached me and hugged me. Not a normal friendly hug. A hug with back rubbing and head kissing. That made me f#$king uncomfortable and the worse part is that it happened twice more. Every time he was about to leave and I said: “Thanks again”, he came back and hugged me.
The third time I said: “Thank you”, I really wanted the ground to swallow me. Why the f#$k didn’t I keep my f#$king mouth shut!!

I felt distraught.
I went straight to the couch to shake my head. I couldn’t believe what had happened. I couldn’t stop thinking about “The Code”. He’s supposed to be my ex’s friend. And that wasn’t a friendly or fraternal hug.
I’d feel freaking uncomfortable if anyone, except my dad or boyfriend, hug me that way.

Shit, I was sad and I got even sadder after I got his email one hour later.

I think I don’t want a car anymore.

You have no idea how bad I felt. I decided to go to bed and watch a movie.
While I was taking a shower, I wondered why my neighbor hadn’t texted me to go out, as she said she would. Then I thought: “Better this way, I’m feeling like crap right now, I don’t want to see anyone”.
I could have dressed up, walked 50 steps to town and go to the kermis, (it’s kermis weekend here), but I really didn’t feel like doing anything.

I was watching a movie in bed and at 9.55pm I heard the bell. I ran downstairs in my pj’s and I found my neighbor all dressed up and ready: “Do you still want to go out?”
“Of course, I wasn’t sure if you were coming. I’ll be ready in 15 minutes”
“If I say I come, I come”. Which we know it’s not true because I’ve been stood up a few times before. Never mind.

I went back upstairs, dressed up, put on some make up and ran to the bank to take some money. She said she was going to see her mom and back in 30 minutes. I didn’t want to make her wait again so as soon as I was ready, I stayed in my driveway waiting for her. 45 freaking minutes!! I was about to go back in when I saw her car coming.

She asked me if I wanted to go to Holland of if I preferred to go to the kermis around the corner. I said whatever she liked it was fine with me. So she said: “Let’s take a look at the kermis. I also need to take some money”. “OK”
Perfect! I was really curious to see the band that was playing live at the time. Mostly, Elvis Presley’s songs.

If I tell you that they were playing for a crowd of 4 women (the wives?), you wouldn’t believe me. So I took a picture.
All the other people you see, were sitting/standing at the beer and cocktails stands. I was standing in front of the bank waiting for my neighbor.

After that, we went to Holland, to the town were I used to live.
It was full of people because there was an event going on. You could taste food from many of the cafΓ©s/restaurants there. There was loud music all around.
She doesn’t drink alcohol but smokes a lot. So while she drank her diet coke, I had a wine. Dry wine. I still don’t know how I could swallow it without hurting my throat.

We sat in a cafΓ© and she suggested to take a few pictures.

After that, we went to several pubs. You could dance in most of them.

I had fun and I think she had fun too because she already said that we were going out the next weekend I was without my kids.

  3. The thing with Arnoud…. :-\ 😦 I can think of a few times I’ve had uncomfortable hugs, one from a friend my ex worked with and when I went to visit his wife in the hospital, just having had their second child, his hug wasn’t “friendly” either. Not good.

And it looks like you girls had some fun! πŸ™‚ I feel so bad for the band playing for only a few people 😦 Seems like you’re going to have some fun nights out in your future! Glad you shared πŸ˜€

    • I hope to have many fun nights πŸ™‚

And Arnoud made me really uncomfortable. I can’t stop thinking about it. I’m trying to see a funny thing so I can laugh about it but I’m dry… Maybe I should be glad I didn’t feel any pressure bellow the belt πŸ˜€

  4. Why don’t you just reply and say it was great to see him, thanks again for helping you with the oven and the chances of you ever having a car that you’re comfortable driving more than a block is about 0% πŸ™‚
