Friday!! A part of me loves that it’s Friday and a part of me is dreading the weekend. I’m behind with everything and I don’t have much will to do anything.

I read my Twin’s blog earlier (lookingforthelight.me). For the people who don’t know it yet, my Twin has Lyme disease. She’s in a lot of pain. Her sight is failing. Her memory is not as it used to be. She’s not having a nice time at all and the doctors said that the recovery could take at least 5 more years.
Even though she has a very difficult time, she never ceases to inform and warn people about Lyme disease.
This morning she posted a link about a doctor who contracted Lyme disease and wasn’t properly diagnosed in time. I read the article and I felt really sad. The last part brought back some bad memories.

When I was pregnant with my daughter I had preeclampsia (disorder of pregnancy characterized by high blood pressure and a large amount of protein in the urine. Usually occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy and gets worse over time. In severe cases there may be red blood cell breakdown, a low blood platelet count, impaired liver function, kidney dysfunction, swelling, shortness of breath due to fluid in the lungs, or visual disturbances. Preeclampsia increases the risk of poor outcomes for both the mother and the baby. If left untreated, it may result in seizures).

I wasn’t diagnosed, of course. I knew something was wrong because I felt dizzy. All the time I saw falling lights in front of my eyes. Breathing was difficult. I couldn’t walk because my legs were terribly swollen. And it didn’t matter how much I complained to the doctors or midwives about how bad I felt (and looked), I got always this answer: “Of course you are tired, you are pregnant and you have 3 small kids”.
I’m glad I’m stubborn and one day I said to the man: “F#$k the doctors, take me to the hospital”. And once there I looked at him and said: “I’m not leaving this place without my daughter in my arms”.
My kidneys were failing and if my daughter wasn’t born in the next 24 hours, I would have needed a kidney transplant. Or we could have died. I knew it and the doctors knew it too.

I’m shaking my head. How many persons accept what the doctors say even though deep down they know something is really wrong?

The best way to avoid getting Lyme disease is to avoid being bitten by an infected tick. The key here is prevention.

-Wear long sleeves and tuck your pants into your socks. If possible try to wear light-colored clothing so you can spot the ticks more easily.
-Apply repellents that contain DEET.
-Check for ticks daily and remove them promptly. Check along the hairline, behind the neck, on the scalp, behind the knees, in the navel, between fingers, in armpits, in ears, between the butt crack and in the groin.

And most important, go to the doctor if you were bitten by a tick and develop a red rush. I read that sometimes there is no rush. In that case, if you were bitten by a tick and a few days later you develop flu-like symptoms, mention that to the doctor.
If Lyme is diagnosed in time, it can be treated with antibiotics.

And IT’S FRIDAY, I’M IN LOVE!! This song goes perfectly with this post. I think the lyrics are beautiful. Just imagine someone telling you this: (I’m melting here!!)

‘Cause I’d like to see you out in the moonlight
I’d like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I’d like to check you for ticks

Let your special one check you for ticks!
I want to dedicate this song to my Twin. I love you!

Ladies and Gentlemen, enjoy Brad Paisley singing:

Ticks
(written by Kelley Lovelace, Brad Paisley & Tim Owens)

Every time you take a sip
In this smoky atmosphere
You press that bottle to your lips
And I wish I was your beer
In the small there of your back
Your jeans are playing peekaboo
I’d like to see the other half
Of your butterfly tattoo

Hey, that gives me an idea
Let’s get out of this bar
Drive out into the country
And find a place to park

‘Cause I’d like to see you out in the moonlight
I’d like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I’d like to check you for ticks

I know the perfect little path
Out in these woods I used to hunt
Don’t worry babe, I’ve got your back
And I’ve also got your front
Now, I’d hate to waste a night like this
I’ll keep you safe you wait and see
The only thing allowed to crawl all over you
When we get there is me

You know every guy in here tonight
Would like to take you home
But I’ve got way more class than them
Babe, that ain’t what I want

‘Cause I’d like to see you out in the moonlight
I’d like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I’d like to check you for ticks

You never know where one might be
There’s lots of places that are hard to reach
I gotcha

I’d like to see you out in the moonlight
I’d like to kiss you, baby, way back in the sticks
I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I’d like to check you for ticks
Oh, I’d sure like to check you for ticks
